Funicula, lake and mountains

4/7/18

Today we drove a narrow winding road to get to the town of Pigra in the mountains where there is a funicular that goes down to the town of Argegno at lake level.
About half way down

It was a cloudy, hazy day so we couldn't see the Dolomites and it was a bit of the way down the mountain before we could even see the lake. Ideally, we would find a ferry to take us to some other town along the lake but we had a rather late start (because we were lazy getting up) and weren't able to find anything that would get us back to the funicular before it closed. We wandered around the town of Argegno, another town where all the roads perpendicular to the lake go very much vertically.

We drove back up into the mountains to the Swiss border then turned back and had a late lunch at a restaurant near the border. We had some different sorts of pastas than we have had before. I had one called "pizzocheri," which is a local dish of buckwheat pasta with Savoy cabbage, potatoes and FOUR different cheeses. It was incredibly rich and quite tasty.

Dick had a tagliatelle with deer ragu which was also good. On the way home we there was a bit of a road block which we made our way through then stopped for Sunday dinner groceries.
He and many of his family were blocking the road
